Plans for a Dollar General store on the former Eastwood School property continue to move forward as the city prepares to sell 1.5 acres to the developer.
Marshall City Administrator J.D. Kehrman told the City Council Monday that work is continuing on the site and that an ALTA survey has been completed.
The city is now moving toward a lot split needed before the property can be sold.
Kehrman said in a subsequent interview that the developer will purchase 1.50 acres covering the footprint of the former Eastwood School building with a sale price of $175,000.
The remaining property to the east and north will stay under city ownership.
During the council meeting, Kehrman said the survey identified several utilities along the western edge of the property that did not have recorded easements.
The city is creating a general utility easement while it still owns the property so those utilities will be covered before the land is conveyed to the developer.
A construction start date has not yet been set.
Kehrman said the timing of construction and any new entrance from Eastwood Street will depend on the final design and site plan.
That plan has not yet been fully developed or approved.
The Dollar General project would reuse the portion of the property where the Eastwood School building once stood while leaving the rest of the site in city hands.
