The Missouri Valley women’s rodeo team finished out its fall semester of competition on Nov. 22-24 at the University of Murray in Murray, KY. The team had two top-three finishes with sophomore Sheyenne Anderson finishing second in the goat tying and freshman Taylor Mason winning the breakaway roping.

The team would end up second overall at the rodeo falling short to the University of Tennessee at Martin.

“We didn’t have very many girls back to the short round, the livestock was really uneven and some girls didn’t draw the best,” said Anderson. “With that said, I feel like the girls that made it back were able to capitalize, we just needed more girls back.”

Even with a second place finish at their last college rodeo of the semester the team is still in the lead for the year end standings. Five of Valley’s women occupy top ten spots in their respective events, seniors Fallon Dyer and Cara Hilzendeger are sitting fifth and eighth in the goat tying.

Sophomore Morgan Chappell is second in the breakaway roping, and Mason and Anderson are both in the top ten in the goat tying and breakaway roping.

With one semester of competition remaining these individuals have a good chance to make it to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) which is held in Casper, WY.

Only the top three women in each event will qualify for the CNFR making it a prestigious event.

“To make the college finals would mean I would be one step closer to my ultimate goal which is to be a national champion,” Mason said. “It would mean the world to me.”
