The Missouri Valley College football team is now 2-1, after defeating Graceland (Iowa) Saturday Sept. 11, 38-34. The Vikings already have an overall better record than their 2020 season where they were 1-6.
Graceland was on the board first, during the first five minutes of the first quarter, but the Vikings were ready to answer back in the second quarter with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Darrion Cole to Isaac Bausley. Followed by a PAT by James Lahrman. Lahrman, the kicker, was the leading scorer last season for the Vikings.
The Vikings went on to score four more touchdowns in the third and fourth quarter. Kenneth Sanford and Jeremiah Bryant each had two rushing touchdowns that led the team to a victory. Lahrman also had a 32 yard field goal to seal the victory.
On the defensive side, Tui Pulu led the team with 7 tackles, followed by Dominic Santana who had 6 tackles and one sack. The Vikings defense held Graceland to only 58 rushing yards.
The Vikings are already off to a better start this year than last season. And they do not seem like they are ready to stop. The team is very eager and ready to work hard to achieve their goals for this season.
The Vikings will host Culver-Stockton (Missouri) at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18 at Gregg-Mitchell Field.
