The Men’s Soccer team at Missouri Valley College wrapped up their spring season last Sunday against State Fair Community College.
The spring season started for the MVC Men’s soccer team mid-March. During the spring season, the team is unable to keep track of the scores per NAIA rules.
Although scores were not recorded, it didn’t make the team any less successful, Men’s Head Soccer Coach Vladimir Simic said.
“We did really good,” he said. “I was really happy with the outcomes and we played D2 schools.”
The Varsity team played three D2 schools, which included Quincy University, Drury University and Lincoln University. Even though they played up in level, the team remained focused on their goals.
Players of the Men’s Soccer teams also emphasized the success of the season.
“Overall, it was definitely a successful spring,” Captain Jacob Adams said. “We tried new things, developed new relationships on the field, and took positive steps towards team goals for next semester.”
First-year student Fernando De Ornelas said he found the spring season to be very interesting.
“I got the opportunity to show what I got on Varsity and get some minutes in the game as well,” he said.
The spring season is a great time for development and training to prepare for the next season to come, which takes place in the Fall semester.
Simic explained the importance of spring seasons as a way to stay active.
“Sports ideally play all year long to be in good shape, so we use a spring season to get better,” he said.
Using this time also allows for the team to work on specific things in a more relaxed environment, said Adams.
“Spring season is such a big tool for us because we get to slow down and try new things that we maybe don’t get time to in the fall due to the season being so intense,” he said.
De Ornelas understands how fast-paced the regular season can be.
“Spring season prepares you for the high-intensity games and the dynamics between practices and games,” he said.
