With finals week approaching, Missouri Valley College professors are encouraging students to prioritize preparation and mental health as they head into the final stretch of the semester.

“Start studying in the middle of the semester, but now that we are past that point, the most important thing is to focus on your mental health,” Dr. Daryl Chastain said. “The best way to help yourself out is to ask your professor for help. We love that stuff.”

Final grades can carry significant weight for students, determining the difference between an A and a B, or even passing and failing.

With less than a month until final grades are posted, students will be trying to find the best ways to remember all their information and best prepare for tests, and while teachers want their students to succeed, they also don’t want them to forget about the essentials of life.

“Prioritize your mental health, especially the week of. Definitely eat and sleep well during the week, it’s crazy how much more prepared you will feel,” Dr. Liam Kahmeyer said.

Finals week can heighten stress and anxiety for students whose academic goals are on the line, but preparation can help ease that pressure.

“If you want to avoid the anxiety, it is better to be overprepared because you’re confident in your ability,” Dr. Andrew Lisenbardt said.

With a few weeks remaining, professors encourage students to stay consistent in their studies, seek help when needed and prioritize their well-being as they prepare for final exams.
