The 2020 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Champions started their season off with a 2-0 win over Columbia College in double overtime, marking their first win since they defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan in May to win the program’s first-ever National Championship.

The Missouri Valley College men’s soccer team maintained the top spot in the first regular season edition of the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday.

Missouri Valley remained at No. 1, and earned all 17 first place votes, after opening the season with two victories during the latest ratings period.  After Vikings defeated then-No. 4 Columbia, they earned a 3-1 win over Ottawa (Ariz.).  Monday’s 2-1 win over Grace (Ind.) did not factor into this ratings period, but the team is 3-0 on the season.

The team is looking forward to this season, as they are ranked number one in the conference. And also have many returning players including starting goalkeeper Dusan Milosevic and the National Player of the Year Luka Gluscevic.

One problem the Vikings will face is the loss of Kainan Dos Santos, their lead scorer on offense. But the team is confident in their ability to make it back to the Championship this year.

“We are proud of everyone in the group and very confident as a team,” Senior Julio Otto said. “However, we want more. We won one battle but the war continues as we love to play soccer, work hard and keep improving and growing as athletes and human beings.”
