Marshall Municipal Utilities broadband expansion continues to move forward after an update on the project at the Board of Public Works meeting on Wednesday, August 26.

During the annual budget review, Controller Tony Bersano said USDA representatives are expected to conduct a review of the grant-funded project in October. This review will give MMU guidance on completed projects and costs.

“They’re supposed to… give us guidance on, ‘here’s what you’re doing correct. Here’s what you need to work on,’” Bersano said.

Customer connection costs have been higher than originally projected. Bersano said MMU could reach its targeted number of customers but may not receive grant reimbursement for every connection because of the increased costs.

This USDA project has a deadline of January 6, 2028.
