With the fall portion of the season now complete, it has been an interesting season for Missouri Valley’s Women’s Golf team. 

“The season was a struggle, because we only have four girls out of seven that are competing in tournaments,” said Destiny Johnson, who is in her second year playing for the Vikings.

With only four players on the course, the Vikings ended several of their matches with no team score. Johnson attributed the shortfall to a combination of eligibility and personal issues.

Johnson said she feels there is always room for improvement for any team, and improvement should come easy with the type of chemistry the team has.  When it comes to the team’s chemistry, Johnson believes that the team is extremely close.

The Vikings have competed in five tournaments so far this year, and Emma Sperry has stood out as a key player for the team. Sperry placed high at a few tournaments, and is being eyed as a possible All American.

Senior Mariah Farden finished the first half of the season strong with by winning all three of her matches at the Oct. 15 Baker (Kan.) University Match Play at Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe, Kan. Farden won all three of her matches, although the Vikings finished 1-2 in the event, and sixth in the standings.

Both the men’s and women’s golf teams have finished their fall competition schedules, and will resume their 2019-20 seasons in the spring.
