Trunk or Treat events are common across the United States, with schools, churches and civic groups hosting them as a safe alternative to door-to-door trick or treating.

The city of Marshall host an annual Trunk or Treat and this year, the Missouri Valley College community had a helping hand in the event.

Many businesses set up outside of the square with candy, treats, and other things for the Marshall community families, friends, and local kids.  These businesses went out of their way to make the event fun for everyone. Business owners and workers dressed in costumes, many as the kids favorite superhero, character, or for some kids their favorite animals

Valley’s Nonprofit Leadership Alliance students were one of the various school organizations to work in partners with the community in the annual square Trunk or Treat event.

“The event brought us all together,” said senior Katlyn Flowers. “To see all of the kids dressed up and excited to win prizes, play games, and get candy was awesome. Everytime we work in partnership with the Marshall community it is always an amazing experience to get some hands on non-profit work in the community.”

While some groups got together to work in the community other worked in partner with the community as a class project.

“The Ag Club was involved in the Chamber of Commerce Trick or Treat on square by partnering with the Accounting Business Society (ABS) and the Theta Phi Sorority to set up a booth that gave out candy to kids who attended the event,” professor Larry Godsey said. “We were asked to partner with the Accounting Business Society (ABS) this year because we had students that were members of both clubs and Ms. Hartley, the sponsor of the ABS, had reserved a space for that club.”

Godsey also said he enjoys working with the Marshall community.

“We hope to be involved in this event next year,” he said. “Our students get to interact directly with people from the community and it is a fun event.”
